Picture Perfect

You must be identical
‘Picture perfect’
Like cookies cut out from the same cookie cutter
Stamped to all be the same
Perfection is key
Any flaw, or difference
No matter the size
No matter how small
You are thrown away
Pointing fingers mock your body
Like a clown at the circus
If you don’t fit in the cookie cutter, you’re ugly
Suck in your stomach until you suffocate
Starve yourself for months on end
Until you get the perfect waist
Smile, don’t stop
Stick needles into your face
Just be the perfect doll and you’ll be safe
‘Words don’t hurt’-then explain the impact
They stab like glass shards, ignorant of your cries
Scars and cuts left across your body
As the burning blood trickles down slowly
All they say is ‘Suck it up’
Pain is beauty and beauty is pain
Was it worth it? The pain? The sacrifice?
Beauty standards are forever changing
And entirely overrated
